our curriculum
At Auchenblae Pre-School we follow the “Realising the Ambition” curriculum for our 2s Group and the Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) for our Pre-School Group, ages three to five.
The curriculum is a balance of adult led and child initiated play, which underpins all future learning and development by supporting each child, developing their confidence and self esteem and ensuring they feel happy and secure. It is important that the children have time to explore, play and have fun – we provide a range of different play-based learning experiences throughout each session.

Communication & Language
We help children develop communication through speech, body language, and expression. Through stories, songs, and play, they practise listening, attention, and begin exploring simple concepts like shapes and size.
Physical Development
We support movement and coordination through activities like climbing, drawing, and dancing. Children also practise everyday skills such as washing hands and putting on their coat.
Literacy
Children develop early language and literacy through stories, library visits, and shared reading. Creative activities like art, clay, and dough help strengthen the coordination and hand muscles needed for early writing.
Mathematics
Children begin exploring numbers, shapes, and space through simple games and songs. As they play, they learn to count, recognise shapes, compare quantities, and start solving simple problems.
Personal, Social & Emotional Development
Children build confidence, learn to play with others, make friends, and begin understanding their feelings and behaviour, including sharing and taking turns.
Understanding the World
Children explore the world around them, learning about nature, everyday life, different cultures, and simple technology through play and discussion.
Expressive Arts & Design
Children explore creativity through art, music, and storytelling while experimenting with different materials, colours, and tools.
